This railing is perfect for interior or exterior applications where clients require an ada compliant handrail system. Figure 505 10 1 top and bottom handrail extension at ramps. Not only are fitting based handicap railings easy to install they are also corrosion resistant. A lower railing is shown parallel to the ramp mounted no higher than 27 inches 685 mm above the ramp.

The handrails on both sides have horizontal projections as above. Handrails are not required on walking surfaces with running slopes less than 1 20. The i codes define handrail as being in place to provide guidance. Extensions shall return to a wall guard or the landing surface or shall be continuous to the handrail of an adjacent ramp run.

Ramp handrails shall extend horizontally above the landing for 12 inches 305 mm minimum beyond the top and bottom of ramp runs. The railing starts at the base of the ramp and terminates into the brick wall at the top. The mid and bottom railing work to prevent a wheelchair from slipping out from under the railing when going up or down the ramp. Fitting based railings can last up to 7 times longer than standard welded handicap railings.
