If it is dirty turn off the gas to allow the thermocouple to cool.
Wall mount gas heater keeps shutting off.
Also there may be a pilot adjustment valve on your gas valve.
It should be parallel to the pipe.
There could a fault in the gas valve s main burner solenoid causing it to draw excessive power and starving the pilot flame solenoid.
If so replace the entire valve.
When the main burner shuts off either because of the thermostat s action or because of a cool thermocouple due to the sputtering pilot flame the heater may remain in the off condition depending on whether the pilot light happens to be extinguished when the burner cuts off.
We have a williams top vent gas fired wall furnace that won t run properly.
This also needs to be cleaned out.
This needs to be removed and blown out with compressed air.
If your gas water heater keeps shutting off the thermocouple could be dirty bent or damaged.
If you open and close the door at the bottom it will usually start up again.
If you re sure there is gas the pilot aperture may be blocked.
I am sure the thermostat is out of whack but that really isn t the problem.

We have a gas wall heater and we have been having episodes typically at night where the thermostat shows the temperature is below the desired temperature and the unit ignites turns on and runs for a couple minutes and then shuts off for about 30 45 seconds then turns on again runs for a couple minutes and then turns off again.
If there is or your heater runs on natural gas check the handle on the gas line.
Older model units have a device called the fan limit switch.
Yours may be different.
